Decorate with Orange
"While the coloring might be appropriate for Halloween, the ora
nge votive is sure to dress up a summer dinner party as well, since they're more apt to be in season. The steps are simple and the result impressive.
- Cut the orange through the middle. Make sure to use a sharp knife since you'll be putting them back together when you're done.
- Use a knife to separate the edible part of the orange from the rind, and then follow up with a spoon to remove the inside (use it for juice or eat right away!).
- Cut a hole in the top to allow for incoming oxygen and escaping smoke. The authors use a small, round biscuit cutter which looks great. They suggest trying stars or other cookie cutter shapes depending on the occasion.
- Place a votive in the bottom half and rejoin the two halves. And there you have it! Naturally orange scented votives. The author also decorates the crown of the orange with whole cloves, although they were using it for Christmas decorations."
